A short piece of mine has just been put up on a horror micro-fiction site: Micro Horror. I unearthed it the other night digging through my box of google docs. Check it out: The Long Trail and its End.

Doug and White Horses got plugged and interviewed the other day for a site called Thoughts in Progress. Read to exist. Also worth noting that White Horses is 15% off until August 13th if you enter the code: BEACHREAD305 at checkout. That is all. Here is the interview
“I think WHITE HORSES was my attempt to create something that might possibly make all these bad things better. Like I could weave a safety net out of words. Like I might be able to save what little I still had. I think all these desperate factors together created a sort of poetry.” -Doug

“Dear, sweet Jelly Smithson:
It seems as though the great state of Indiana, while contemplating its many dead sons–maimed by bayonet, vivisected by grenade–grew a massive erection that turned out to be, as Bob Dole has since proven humanly possible, permanent. Ten stories high and topped with a dead sailor. O! how adored and adorned. What could be more patriotic?
I’ve been told by the butler to inform you that your mother expresses her deep love to you, Smithson, but it’s also been expressed that that love comes with a grain of salt. She knows where you come from and is unimpressed with its yeasty proclivities. But, you know, kin is kin. She’ll cherish you to the end, you disgusting, disgusting thing.
Flourish your burger like a barbecue chef flourishing his burger.
Delightedly,
–Marcel Proust”

A bit back I composed an interactive meditation on failure for an open call from Several Pursuits. The task was taken up merely as a direction for thought/activity, and the objective was met (for me) as soon as the piece was completed, however, because it was a directed effort, it has hit a mark, and they’ve accepted my submission. Follow this link to Several Pursuits to bring you back here.

Ten days left to commission a story for NaDA’s upcoming collection of fiction by Jacob Cholak, Didn’t Die Young Yet. We’ve been soliciting stories from (friends and) strangers to compile into a book of shorts. Jake is one of the most legitimately brilliant and insane people I have the pleasure of knowing first hand. I highly HIGHLY recommend you take this opportunity to enable some fiction.

A nuclear bomb detonates with such incredible force because it is the ultimate collision with concrete reality. An Atom – inarguable. Prove enough points and we’re all reduced to… To imagine the energy of the Universe, of the moment(s) of its birth – the Big Bang, imagine all atoms simultaneously exploding. The total energy of all atoms in the universe. E=Mc2 where M (mass) = EVERYTHING. The whole history of activity back since the very beginning in one single event. Back to the pre-atomic. Back to the microseconds of speeding – seething plasma. A glowing glow – for there IS nothing else but the glow. All the energy only. Everything it takes to hold us together. We are because of a force equal to all of the energy in the Universe. The antithesis of thought is an atomic bomb.

New project from Jake Cholak & NaDA just launched tonight, Didn’t Die Young Yet: Stories for Strangers. We’re soliciting friends and strangers through Kickstarter for money for stories. Jake Cholak is basically furious, also a fantastic writer. This is a foray of an experiment. For now, pledge an amount to the project and you will receive a story written just for you. Pledge over $12 and you will receive a copy of the resulting book collecting all the stories written for the project. For the sake of perpetuating fictions.

Power through time again
and the dying of leaves
switch-hitting at the answers
of dust-mite thoughts
roughly the size and shape
of Texas.Filling voids long gone
with women’s hopes
and rocket pride. The act of labor
with ships at sea
fucking head-long
into whitewalls
and the tick grasps
gapingly at the point.
I am away and failing at it. Need more away.
