Didn’t Die Young Yet

New project from Jake Cholak & NaDA just launched tonight, Didn’t Die Young Yet: Stories for Strangers. We’re soliciting friends and strangers through Kickstarter for money for stories. Jake Cholak is basically furious, also a fantastic writer. This is a foray of an experiment. For now, pledge an amount to the project and you will receive a story written just for you. Pledge over $12 and you will receive a copy of the resulting book collecting all the stories written for the project. For the sake of perpetuating fictions.

The Dinner Table is Alive!!

Mutt Strut: Hounz of Hall

I was asked by my Dad’s law firm back in Indianapolis to do t-shirts for their upcoming Mutt Strut dog parade/ fundraiser. They wanted to play up on the “Houndz of Hall” idea they had for their team, so I outfitted them in some sheek Norwegian Black Metal inspired tees.
I really am touched to have designed these. They were to commemorate the death of one of their lawyers, Kevin Gfell, who, I’m told, had a great dog Max, and was an all around stand up guy. Ive been told how much of a loss he was, and I am honored to have been involved in his remembrance, in however silly a manner.

A Division of Labor Corp

It has become necessary to hedge my bets and cover my assets. I have been purchased by a larger body. Assimilated into their model, and proceeding with business as usual so long as it does not become a drain on their forward lurch. Announcing the merger of myself, Andrew Lyman, all my brain children, and EDSEL/ Lepanto Industries. A Division of Labor Corp.
The truth is I may be wagging their tail, or shaking their dog, or pulling their punch. In this increasingly high-risk and desolate economy, we need to stick two gather. A day traitor. A bare market. This is insurance, and life, actually, slips away. You aint no kind of man without a corporation at your back. Onward to failure. Backward too.

Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts

Recently I completed a site for the newly re-established Maine Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts or MEVLA for short.
MEVLA is a group providing legal services and aid to individuals and groups working with the arts in Maine. Intellectual property law, contact negotiations, mediation services, etc. They look like they are poised to quickly establish themselves as a prominent fixture in Maine’s cultural landscape. I am happy to have had the opportunity to do some work for them in their early days. For full disclosure I probably only got the job because I met the founder when I moved into his old apartment.

MENSK

Last night I was elected/ hired as executive director of a non-profit group here in Portland called MENSK. From what I understand from my friends that work for non-profits, this means that I will work for slave wages, with little hope of thanks or recognition, for causes that are repeatedly and increasingly neglected. Should be an absolute blast!
MENSK is a hub. We aim to provide a set of utilities and resources for artists and organizers to get their projects, events, organizations off the ground. MENSK is a negative space. It is an umbrella organization and it’s primary aim is to support and nurture burgeoning bright ideas. We also have a proud history and promising future of events organization and community building.
I have absolutely no idea what I am in for at this point, but I aim to learn as I go along. It’s all we can ever do. The second you really get a handle on something I believe you should quit, it indicates that you’re done learning.

Avast Ye Band!

One of my new bands, Ye, will be playing a show here in Portland on the 30th of January. We are listed on the flier as Data Entry, but this is wrong for we have changed our minds. Be there if you can care.
The night after this I will be Dj-ing at a party in Brooklyn with Back and to the Left. It is up to you to figure out which party that may be. See you there.

Despite the time paradox my life is currently surging through, I have managed to revamp both this very site, and my increasingly useful professional site: aLTDeleteDesign.com. I am quite pleased with how it came out. Some of my finer work if I do say so myself. Good thing I always use my best work on myself. Take that rest of the world! Anyway, not much to notice here, I cleaned up her backened way more than her front, but she’s got a nice new logo, some new image images, and some line breaks. If this aint the most exciting day on Earth…

A madcap visual satire of modern society. Tati plunged himself into massive debt to construct the enormous set for the film so that every angle and action could be minutely choreographed. Brimming with anarchic wit and humor in throughout, this is a masterpiece.

USA 121min
One of the most prescient critiques of media culture ever offered up by media culture. Network remains as fresh and scathing today as it was over three decades ago. Written by Paddy Chayefsky, the script breaks nearly every rule of good screenwriting, and remains one of the smartest and most complex ever to be produced by Hollywood. Directed by Sydney Lumet, a master of the fiery monologue.
THE Cinema FREE MANIFESTO:
It is my belief that a culture and history of film must be cultivated, re-socialized, and shared. This history encompasses cinema in all it’s forms and facets. This history is our history as well. We should seek to develop a coherent context of great (and singular) film. Cinema should be raucous. Cinema should be percussive. An end to dispassionately sitting in front of vacant screens, with none of yourself exposed to the vulnerability of the cinema.
I am not a film historian. I am not even a student of cinema in any formal sense. If you are either of these things (or more) share our cinema with us. If you are none of these things, share our cinema with us. We should comb our collective past in pursuit of sights unseen, and stories untold. Cinema has the power to take us to these places. It is our aim and joy to expose and explore them.
All CINEMA FREE screenings will be FREE. These stories belong to all of us. This is our culture, and our community. The structure will entail the irregular exploration of a different theme each month. An effort will be made on my part to offer a diverse selection of films, on a diverse selection of subjects. Some films will be widely known, some barely exist. Each film will be BRIEFLY introduced, and discussion afterward will be encouraged. This is NOT a lecture series, and every effort will be made to cultivate an atmosphere of acceptance, participation, and excitement. So all that being said, come out and watch some damn movies.
